New A2L Refrigerant Systems: What You Should Know

New Regulations
Why is this new requirement going into effect? The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is working on reducing climate change, and the new A2L refrigerants are one aspect of that endeavor. R-410A refrigerants have a much higher Global Warming Potential (GWP) than the replacement refrigerant. With these changes, homeowners will enjoy smaller carbon footprints and money savings on their energy bills. It's a win-win situation!
Refrigerant Detection Systems
One of the most notable differences between A2L refrigerants such as R-32 or R-454B and the current R-410A systems is the inclusion of a refrigerant detection system (RDS) in the newer models. These replacements are considered only mildly flammable, ensuring your safety, and perform with better energy efficiency.
